Fertility Insurance Program®  FIP®
Program Overview

We help intended parents, egg donors, recipients, surrogates, physicians, and other fertility industry providers reduce their risks…

Brown & Brown is one of the largest insurance brokers in the world yet one of the very few that specializes in serving those involved with the reproductive medical and infertility treatment process. Our company’s Fertility Insurance Program® is the leading worldwide provider of such insurance to individuals, physicians, clinics, and agencies participating in the human egg donation, gestational carrier (surrogate mother), and in-vitro fertilization process.

Most standard health insurance plans do not cover (and exclude) infertility treatment procedures, and their costs and risks can be a major factor in a decision not to receive treatment.  If an insurance company discovers a pregnancy is actually a surrogate pregnancy, they will likely deny coverage and sue to receover any claims paid.  Intended parents almost always sign legal contracts making them totally responsible for any costs and expenses of their egg donor or surrogate mother.  This includes any resulting medical costs or disbility expenses arising from complications of the procedure, the pregnancy, and the delivery.  This can be a huge financial risk to intended parents.

Financial loss resulting from unforeseen and uncovered medical expenses related to fertility procedures including surrogacy can be very significant. Furthermore, a participant’s death or potential loss of income resulting from a period of disability following complications can be a significant financial concern. Our program offers specialized insurance products to fertility industry providers (usually physicians, law firms, clinics, or agencies) which in turn make the protection available to their patients and clients. This allows them to protect their clients against many of the financial risk factors that might be of concern as part of their overall services.

Brown & Brown’s Fertility Insurance Program® may make the difference in helping a patient or client decide to go forward with fertility treatment. Perhaps most importantly, a patient or client who has this protection is far less likely to sue a provider for these financial damages.

  • Only Brown & Brown's Fertility Insurance Program® offers insurance that is "admitted" (approved and regulated by the various state insurance departments) from a U.S. based insurance carrier rated "A" (Excellent) by A.M. Best & Co. and that is also one of the largest insurance companies in the world.

  • Our program offers insurance to egg recipients (usually the intended parent) that protect them from the unforeseen and costly medical expenses of their egg donor or surrogate (resulting from complications).

  • Egg recipients (usually intended parents) and surrogates are also covered for their own medical expenses (resulting from complications) that are not covered by their traditional health insurance.

  • Financial loss suffered by patients or clients (resulting from complications) from an in-vitro fertilization procedure or incurred by a gestational carrier (surrogate mother) can also be covered.

  • Our program also provides coverage for the short and long term disability or death of a participant, intended parent, donor, recipient, or surrogate mother (resulting from complications).  Many other coverage enhancements are also included.

  • These unforeseen complications and unexpected medical expenses incurred by a participant, donor, recipient, or surrogate can greatly increase the professional liability risks to the provider, physician, clinic, and agency as well as increase their likelihood of being sued.

  • Our program provides insurance to reduce these risks.

In most states, coverage is arranged and purchased by the fertility provider, physician, clinic, law firm, or agency on behalf of their patients and clients.  In some states, individuals may purchase the coverage directly from Brown & Brown.

Besides meeting the insurance needs of patients and clients, we serve fertility specialists and agencies too. As one of the leading healthcare insurance brokers in the world, Brown & Brown has the expertise and market clout with insurance companies to provide fertility specialists with a wide array of choices for superior coverage at competitive premiums. Many fertility specialists find that Malpractice / Professional Liability coverage is very difficult to obtain or, when available, is simply cost prohibitive. Brown & Brown has the experience, knowledge and resources to address and solve the insurance challenges faced by those involved with infertility treatment.
